Boulder Rocks 3D
A downloadable game for Windows
Boulder Rocks! 3D is a remake of an old, famous game Boulder Dash. Original game has been created in early 80's by Peter Liepa and Chris Gray, released by First Star Software and it has been developed for many platforms, including the most popular 8-bit computers.
My game is just a homage for Boulder Dash. I don't own any rights for Boulder Dash, I don't earn money on my game.
BR!3D is based fully on its predecessor but the graphics and sound effects are made for modern computers, so flat images has been replaced by 3D objects with additional special effects. All of this is still similar to the original game.
There is still an ability to return to the old years. Using a few function keys you can adjust the game look and feel to your requirements. Every graphical effect can be enabled or disabled separately. SFX also can be taken from the Atari computers or you can use modern sounds.
Game rules needs no detailed description. Controlling the Rockford you must pick up all needed diamonds and go to the exit before the time runs out. There are many obstacles on your way - rocks, walls or monsters. To kill the monster you must drop a rock or diamond on it or let him go to lava that will kill them. When a butterfly dies, it changes to 9 diamonds. In many caves there is no needed diamonds and you must create them by killing butterflies. There is another method of creating the diamonds - magic walls. When a rock will fall into magic wall, it will change to diamond. Be aware that falling diamonds will change to rocks!
Lava expands until there will be too much of it and then it will change to rocks. But if it cannot expand because it's enclosed in a closed area, it will change into diamonds! Lava can't kill you but it can trap you.
You'll find expanding walls too. If it has a free space next to it, the wall will expand as much as it's possible. Walls can be destroyed by near explosion of monsters. The only indestructible element is the steel wall.
Detailed description can be found in game help after installation.
The game contains complex level editor, multiple level sets and it's mostly compatible with common BDCFF file format.

Awesome. You have done the original justice. Looks right but more importantly it feels right too!
Thank you! It was much work to adjust everything to make it as close to original as possible, but still with a modern touch. And most important for me was to make the responsive movement. If you press a key in any direction, you must be sure Rockford will move immediately.
