A downloadable game for Windows

Sadist II: Final Scream is a cult brutal "sandbox" from 2000 - a chaos simulator with a horror and massacre vibe and a tongue firmly in cheek.

You create or load a 2D terrain with hills, pits, and your own background, edit it by hand, then release dozens of characters onto it. They can fight in teams, flee, panic, or do exactly what you tell them. You pick your weapon - from bazookas and shotguns to anvils, lasers, or napalm - and shoot with the mouse, or take direct control of a single character from the keyboard.

You can change the weather, trigger storms and earthquakes, flood everything with blood, draw terrain on the fly, and save your own levels. Characters react to their surroundings: they fall off cliffs, drown, burn, lose limbs, and fight each other according to aggression rules you set. Dozens of weapons and "attractions" are at your disposal - from lightning bolts and air strikes to throwing bricks, corpses, and bonus crates.

The game also offers a timed mode for those who like a challenge, plus rich customization options - custom characters, textures, and backgrounds.

The latest 2026 release is an updated version with a few bug fixes, new description files, a refreshed title screen, and a ready-to-go DOSBox wrapper - no configuration needed. Just launch the icon and start the massacre. It runs on Windows 10 and 11, and reportedly on Linux too. And above all, from version 1.10 onward the game is available in English! Download the appropriate file from this page.

Sadist II is for anyone who appreciates creative destruction, distinctive character physics, pixel art and blood, a huge range of options, and the freedom to experiment. Simple in concept, endlessly deep in possibilities. If you enjoy creating your own chaos scenarios, this game was made for you. Download it and find out why players have kept coming back to this bloody, absurd, and shamelessly fun sandbox for over two decades!

For non-Windows systems there's a solution too.

Since the game comes with DOSBox configuration, and DOSBox is cross-platform, nothing stops you from running it in DOSBox on any other system: Linux, BeOS, macOS X, and so on. If needed, download the DOSBox build that suits your platform.

The game is an open source project. If you wish to look at the game code, it is available on my github: https://github.com/GadZombie/sadist2

Had so much fun playing this. Miss the quirky DOS titles from the early internet era. I'll be posting my full review in the Homebrew section of Issue#83 of Fusion.  - www.fusionretrobooks.com

Wow! Thank you very much for your kind words. This game was always just for fun! When the mentioned issue is going to be available?

I've "wasted" SO many hours (and dudes) playing this!

I remember downloading the original on 56k modem from the author's homepage while hunting for small freewares during my weekly 30-minutes of dialup allowance - came up as one of the best finds I got, which literally shaped my taste in video games🫀

Thank you for your memories. I’m very glad and proud that my game influenced on someone’s taste. When S2 was released, the Polish internet was quite small. We were using mostly news groups on the usenet to share our software and get some help. That was amazing time. S2 was popular mostly on those groups and leaked into the internet cafes and school labs. I enjoyed creating that game so much. It was much fun to get ideas from other people and give them what they want. And modem… well… probably some first versions of Sadist 1 was even uploaded by my modem 33.6. It was absolute torture.

Featured on IndieRetroNews. Sorry for the delay just sooo busy

Wow! Thank you for everything you’ve done! I’m so happy, you know, that game really is 26 years old and it was rusty and forgotten for a long time. I’ve never believed it will rise again. But thanks to the English translation and a bit of promotion (from people like you or Saberman), after many years some new people can play it and have some fun. I hope everyone will enjoy this little sunday massacre ;)
